Nguyen Thanh Binh

Nguyen Thanh Binh was born in 1954 in Hanoi and graduated from the Hanoi College of Fine Arts in 1972. He is most often recognized for his oil on canvas works of women and girls in white Ao Dai dresses. Binh draws his inspiration from classical music, his daughter’s ballet dancing and from Japanese poetry. He creates meaningful canvases based on simple, but well-executed brush strokes.

Binh is inspired by Japanese haiku poems where a few lines can carry tremendous meaning. “Like haiku, paintings can convey immense significance with very few colors and details. The objects may be condensed and understated, but the meaning is significant.” Binh’s use of space and balance is always an essential part of his work.

Binh’s works are very widely collected and have been featured in solo and group exhibitions all over the world.
